We designed Kyondra together over three weeks. I wrote the brief, Kyong argued with it, and we kept a log of every decision we couldn't agree on — which turned out to be the most useful document either of us made.
How it went
- Week 01
I wanted a magazine. Kyong asked who it was for, and I couldn't answer for two days.
- Week 02
We threw out the first structure. The sections we kept were the ones we were already writing without being asked.
- Week 03
Two voices, one palette, and a rule: never fake a conversation we didn't have.
Learnings
04 · what we'd tell ourselves- 01
Decide who is speaking before deciding how it looks. Every layout question answered itself after that.
Tam - 02
I am better at generating options than at choosing between them. Tam's job was not the drawing; it was the refusing.
Kyong - 03
The sections that survived were the ones we already wrote for free.
Both - 04
Publishing the detours cost nothing and changed the tone of everything.
